How to get Rich in Kibera Part 1.

I like Being rich, When you have some Level of Wealth there are things You Can Control especially in a society or a community like Kibera.

Since I have been here in kibera consistently since May 2003 I have seen Much especially with the self acclaimed rich people in Kibera. From the Outlook they don't look very rich yet they really are very rich.

Now How does a person become rich in Kibera? Let me propose what I have seen with my own eye for these twelve year of consistent residency.

1. Be a Police officer

These Law enforcement officers  are a bunch of thieves stealing from the people of Kibera. They know every single Changaa Sales Points, Bar, Wines and Spirit shop and Bang' (Marijuana) Dispensaries. They collect money from these vendors and they get rich from it.

When you fall in their hands, the police can kick your ribs, grab you like hand bag and  through you like garbage until they get like a hundred shillings bribe from you to set you free.

I have seen and concluded that a serious police who has been in kibera for Long now owns,  public pay toilet, some rental houses, a Matatu on the Road (Transport) and have a Wines and Spirits Outlet.

2. Be a "Youth"

These are legal clandestine groups, personalities and Individual working hand in hand with the Area Chiefs, and Assistant Chief. They are characterized by extortion, Malice and are prone to violence at some point. Whenever, they see Personal Investment and Development plans they think & act quick on how to make money out of it. They have earned Money from as a little as evicting a helpless tenant to large sums like Giving out Political Parties Nominations Certificates.

Some members of the so called "Youth" are extremely right and are wealthy and did I say more....they are also the land Grabbers, Deal strikers, Route Controllers and Political Brokers.

If you want to be rich then join them. How do they recruit? Well, just go to the Chief or Assistant Chief Offices, Hang around, Opportunities to be rich are never few. Be bold, have a daring face, smoke bang, be ready to curse,  build some Muscles by joining a local stone lifting and muscle building centers, put on shades on your eyes and always look busy. Keep hang around there for two three days put your ear on the ground get some information on who is doing what were and you get hooked up.

Contracts will come through the Chiefs, or the Assistant Chief, or the leader of those groups,  or from the concerned residents or members of the public, you will develop your own service charges e.g service charges from five hundred shillings to ten thousand based on the job at hand.

Why Pope Francis Should Come to Kibera

When I was a Boy, My Father walked me through the sweltering heat of the early 1990s when Pope John Paul II. Visited this wonderful Nation. Its was an a Must encounter for my Dad as a staunch Catholic. He pushed with me through the crowd, holding my little hands, pressing forwards for a Papal magnificent presence, all I can recall from that Visit was that I was the greatest ever religiouse activity I ever attended with My Dad.

Now in the next few days; I mean by End of November 2015, Pope Francis will be visiting Kenya. Specifically Nairobi Kenya. visible anticipation has been in Nairobi; the #KideroGrass is ready as the rest of the city Prepares, Security will be beefed up, millions of both non Catholic and Catholic Believers will flock  Nairoibi to have a Glimps of the Humble Pope.  Though some because of circumstances may not be able to come into the city or if they are in the city will not find time to see the Pope or be in the Gathering and may opt to see Him from the comfort of their sitting rooms.

As a Pentecostal, I am tempted to have a view of the Pope; I know its not biblically condemned for a Born again Christina to have a Papal Presence; Since I am tempted to have this wonderful, owersome presence, I wish to make a recommendation as to where I prefer to have this Papal presence or the Papal Maiden visit to this Humble Nations.

I desire to have Pope Francis come to Kibera. Why Kibera, Well, the Pope has many reason as to why to come to Kibera: These reason Include: Kibera has vast opportunity for the presentation of the Gospel, Kibera Has the Population, Kibera is positioned for History; He will become the 1st Pope to visit Kibera, Kibera is a Land of Diversity- There are all ethnic communities in Kenya in kibera hence the opportinity to Preach an Universal Message the message of hope to strengthen people to fight the Challenges of HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Sicknesses, Corruption, Unemployment, and Political Challenges just Like the rest of the World.

We can receive Pope Francis at the Laini Saba Grounds or at Olympic Primary School, or The Pope can Just Travers the People settlement on a Road Show from Soweto High Rise to 42-Kinada Round then He will pass through Jamhuri Estate to Adams- Guadalupe Church.(My Day used to take us to Church there).

I personally hope, that this visit will not only remind me of My Fathers commitment to religion but it is my personal reminder that I need to tend my salvation with Fear and trembling. We all await for the Pope in Kibera.

Kibera The Place of Hope- Part1.

What is Hope?

This is the belief that tomorrow will be better than today? Am I right?

Standing at a Place of Hope
Every single day as the sun rises over the Chocolate City I see hope; the hope that ever person holds to be true and self evident, that tomorrow will be better than today. I stand here right now at Kianda Flood light next to Bombolulu Bar and I'm looking closely at how life is unfolding before the people. Some are standing in twos & some in threes, some are passing by, the shopkeepers and owners are on. Its evident that people are in the business of buying and selling, two youths have just gone past me pulling a cart ; a cart full of Jerrycans a suggestion that they are water vendors headed to supply water to the people living in Ayany Estate, Some women are already cutting Sukuma Wiki at their Vibandas as they look forward to a day of sales a head of them but more so to serve their clients as Lunch draws Near.

Right from the main road; I mean the road leading to the 42 stage, I see a young man in school uniform. a reminder to me that the schools are reopening and the students commence their third term; the Last Term of three for the year 2015. Going to school here is in itself an expression of hope that students and parents have for the future. This is the hope I had ten year ago when I went to study at Mashimoni Secondary School which was by then called Calvary High. School.

Its was during opening days like this week, that it occurred to me that I had no money to report with as it was the custom to report with money at hand in school; it is still mandatory on the first week of opening without which I used to be among those who were sent back home the very first week of opening.

As this student goes down towards the Salvation Army Church, I'm  reminded  too of the hope that relatives have attached to the schooling of one person, even if they may not directly contribute to their schooling. the hope that one day this student will become a "Someone

I stand here today as a demonstration that Hope never fails. I hoped against all hopes is that one day I will clear school, in deed it happened, I hopped one day I will be in a position to tell my story of Hope and its now happening and I will continue with other parts of my stories of  hope as God will open memories.

As the student go back to school this week, I will be visiting them, mentor them and spend time to hear from them of what hopes & perspectives they have with life. I wish them all the best. Let me Leave now to go eat Matumbo at the small kiosk near Sky Vila Restaurant. They do have a nice one by the way.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies Today

Early in the Morning today before  I went for my morning Prayers, I took a shower and I started asking Myself What will happen if Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today?! Check out More http://www.worldcfm.com/

When I joined the Christian Fellowship Churches in Nairobi on the 10th May, 2003, I was a Young Man fascinated by the Kind of Gospel being preached by the Holy Ghost Filled, Fire Baptized and Heavenly Bound preaches who preached on Sundays, Revivals, Conferences, Discipleship Gatherings for Men, Youth Retreats, and even occasionally in Funerals.

The most fascinating thing about all these services was the fact that every preacher whenever they Prayed or Preached, they would Say “ Lets Pray for Pastor Wayman Mitchell as He Ministers in Prescott Arizona.” Or at almost every sermon a minister will Quote Pastor Wayman Mitchell, or give an Illustration on what he did here or there or in a particular place. I was attracted to this Name. I wanted to know more, I wanted to Hear Him speak, I wanted to Read what he wrote, I wanted to Touch Him with My Hands, I wanted to perform Miracles like God used Him to do, I wanted to Preach like Him. However, I never wanted to collide with him because I heard from the Preachers whom he raised that when he called you aside you will be in for a life changing lecture. For My Love for Him, I went to a fiend Pastor of Mine and he permitted me to Study from the Church Library named after Pastor Mitchell, I got Quotes Like “If you don’t Read Your Bible for yourself, how will you know I am Preaching the Truth” “If you don’t read your Bible, you are a fool” I read books like “Pursuit of Destiny” or “Pastor Wayman Mitchell and His Men” “We shall Conquer the Land” I listened to tens of Tapes that stirred Men to go the Fielded, that challenged them to lay down their lives for God, I personally picked my call from these preaching…. I read and Read numerous articles in the Trumpet and written sermons from my Pastors files.

Well, when announcement was made of His attendance of the East African Bible Conference, Man, that was it; I was excited to the point I went to the Tailor made my first Suit, though it ended up being oversize this I deed lest He find me unprepared for His arrival. We were sent to put conference posters on the streets at night though we feared if
we got arrested by the City Council for mounting of Posters without the City Council seal or permit then we might miss the opportunity of a life time; The opportunity to Meet a Man I had desired to meet all my few Years of salvation by then.

When He came, it was just too awesome! All I desired to see was right in front of me; I touched Him, I listened to Him, I mimicked His voice Preaching, when people were not around I stood on the pulpit, gestured as he would have, held my bible as he would have, and projected my Voice as he would have, I took notes, I bought the Tapes and I went out after the Conference to Outreaches and Ministry: Market Places in the afternoons testifying, Preaching, and winning souls, I never missed Thursday Movie shows, Sunday Noon Prison outreach, and I attempted the work of God as if Pastor Wayman Mitchell had given me a blue print for Ministry in that Conference. I still desire his return to my country. I looked forward to it and moreover the fact that I spoke to Him left a Mark in My heart that even death will not erase. “He handed Us Eternity”

As I was in the Bathroom, I started to recall a few things that I desire to put on paper today, I will not speak much but allow me to speak my mind and heart. It’s true that Wayman Mitchell will die and this might happened before the return of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
I have keenly looked at the trajectory of His Ministry even as he is 85yrs old today; I found out Pastor Mitchell was born on October 9, 1929 in the US state of Arkansas. His father decided to move the family to Prescott, Arizona in 1933, in search of work during the Great Depression. There were five children, Wayman being the youngest. Arizona is where he and his wife Nelda currently reside. Mitchell was stationed on the Island of Guam this was between 1948–1952, for the U.S. military during the Korean War. While there he was head supervisor of the maintenance shop. During this time he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and offered a candidacy at an officer training school. After his military service he met Nelda Henderson at a dance in Phoenix in 1952. They were married on February 7, 1953; He has probably been Married for 60plus years by now, He got born again, Planted or oversaw many churches Planted, been a missionary, Preached over 10,000 sermons, and is still going strong with the Ministry. He is focused to “Go ye into the whole world and Preach the Gospel to every creature” He still lays His hand on the sick and they get well; His most very useful but signature method of letting the sick sit on the Chair with their legs stretched them they get prayed form. While they watch “a Miracle”

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell dies today, I expect the church to be the same; the quality of the sermons delivered, the quality of the disciples raised, the quality of churches planted, quality of lives the leaders will live as they commit to “teach those who will ho will also commit it to the faithful others”.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I still expect to see the Crusades done with songs about Jesus, the Blood with minimum dances, focus on the souls, witnessing, Magnetic Dramas, giving out of flyers, taking name of those who have given their lives to Christ, Discipleship classes attended, Serious Men’s meetings properly attended with quality teachings, Conferences Organized and Properly attended and outreaches more organized.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I don’t expect women to preach on our Pulpits, nor do I expect them to lead the Fellowship.

If Wayman Pastor Mitchell Dies today I do not expect any level of discipline lowered. I do not expect pastors, leaders or workers in the church who fall off standards to still remain in the Ministry or resist discipline.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today I do not expect Rebels to do what they want with the ministry, we will resist them, we will rebuke them, and we will deal with them according to the Bible.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I still expect Trumpets to come to Africa, I still expect Leadership to Preach in the African Conferences, Revival and Preaching Tours and Be Missionaries.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I do not expect African Pastors to behave like the African Politicians and start demanding for election of the Fellowship leader. I do not expect Riots or any demonstration of defiance. Whoever God will choose let Him be the Man who will take this Ministry to the next level as we wait for the return of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I do not expect the Church to Beatify Him and Call Him St. Wayman Mitchell.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I do not expect Him to be buried inside the Prescott Arizona Sanctuary.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I do not expect our Pastors to start wedding Guy Couples. I say, “NO!! NO!! NO!!”

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, I expect all things to remain normal or be made better.

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today, will the transition be Smooth?

If Pastor Wayman Mitchell Dies today "WILL THE FELLOWSHIP SURVIVE?”

The Cry Echoes!!

Help!!  Help!! Is a daily cry of a needy Man, Mother, Kid or any person in Danger, as I’m talking now, the cry is Fading, it can be heard from a far yet it can’t be located, a person has cried to the point of death, the response is at a snail pace, truly Nairobi has been rained on. Who will help the crying, who will hear the cry of those buried under the debris of the falling and sinking buildings? The overflowing drainage? The flooded roads? Who will search the rivers which has swept the innocent ones? Who will answer this quickly fading call for Help?
The most recent and the ongoing floods in Nairobi are beyond our shock; the raging waters have claimed lives after lives, people are screaming for Help all over, but who listens!!! When you stand in the Cluster of those who “knows,” those gathered in the Central business District of the greater Nairobi City County, all you hear is whispers. Whispers on who is responsible; responsible for the Crying!! They stand in Clusters to find blame yet the Cry still echoing!! Help!! Help!! Help!! The cry goes but who will respond??
I want to believe the response will be after the blame. Some point their fingers at the Governor of Nairobi H.E Hon. Dr. Evans Kidero, saying “He has done nothing concerning the Drainage Systems of the City, He has hired too many county workers yet no evident work is done” thus He will not be reelected. Some point their finger at their Land Lords “Our houses are built on tilted grounds or next to or on the Drainage systems, or our houses are substandard” some have shifted from their horizontal Blames and now are stretching their fingers vertically to the Almighty God. And saying “This Rain is too much now, people are dying maybe it’s the will of God for people to die that way, God should stop this Rain” Yet when God takes too long to bring the Rains they pray and fast for the Rains to fall on them, they preach sermons of God’s ability to bring Rains, they stir up their faith towards the coming of the Rains, the sound of thunder to them before the rains are answered prayers!!! This sound increases their hope and affirms to them Faith works beyond reasonable doubt. I will contribute not further to their blames nor will I listen anymore.
In fact, all I need is response to the cry Help!! Help!!!  The cry is quickly fading and we will soon gather for funeral and claim how good they were and how we will miss them yet we never heed to their cry while they were still alive. Let it not be as the days of Noah, He was inside the Ark yet he could not help, the doors were closed, and it was beyond His Help.
Who should we assign then to response to the fading Cry for Help? Is it the Governor? Is it the Landlords? Is it God? Is it the National Youth Services? Is it the President of the Republic of Kenya? Or We the people?? Help!! Help!! The Cry Echoes.

U.S. Program Helps Africans Learn Entrepreneurial Skills

http://www.npr.org/2014/09/03/345428539/u-s-program-helps-africans-learn-entrepreneurial-skills

David Greene talks to Enitan Kuku, who's from Nigeria, and Mildred Apenyo, who's from Uganda, about a U.S. State Department entrepreneurial fellowship for young leaders from Africa.

DAVID GREENE, HOST:

Over the past couple months, we have been looking at youth unemployment. Here in the United States we have heard from college grads working odd jobs because they just haven't been able to find full-time work in their fields of study. Now it's the same for many young people in European countries, but in Africa it is a different experience. Not finding a job can be just one of many challenges.

Roughly 70 percent of young people in Africa live on less than $2 a day. And financial desperation and a sense of hopelessness have led to increased violence and, in some countries, a temptation to join militant groups. One U.S.-funded program called the Mandela Washington Fellowship is aimed at developing young leaders in Africa. And this summer, 25 fellows spent time at the University of Notre Dame looking for ways to help themselves and their home countries.

In much of Africa, there is little industrialization - fewer companies. And so it's not just about fewer available jobs. There are just fewer jobs. And that makes entrepreneurship - doing something to make money on your own - a much more important option.

MILDRED APENYO: Our trajectory is not going to become, like, super industrialized fast. It's not going to follow what has happened, say, in the U.S. We are jumping certain steps and innovating. People are heavily bootstrapping back home. Things are going to definitely be different about, you know, the way Africa develops.

GREENE: That's the voice of Mildred Apenyo. She's a young entrepreneur from Uganda. She and another fellow in the Notre Dame program, Enitan Kuku form Lagos, Nigeria, came into our studios to talk about their experiences starting their own businesses back home.

Enitan's country, Nigeria, has a population of about 170 million people. And right now, nearly a quarter of them are unemployed. Enitan said she sees many people with the potential for self-employment on the streets of Lagos.

ENITAN KUKU: On Third Mainland Bridge, driving in the rain, I see people offering to sell me gala - like, sausage rolls - on the street of Lagos. It's raining. The bridge is like 30 minutes long by driving. So by walking - and you see these guys walking from the edge of the bridge to the other in the rain - in the sun. Sometimes I feel like crying because I say, how do these guys survive every day? There is hunger in people to actually earn a living. They don't have a job. So we just have to structure the old business model around entrepreneurship to say that is the next future for Africa.

GREENE: Now, these two women who came to our studios admit that their cases are not typical. They feel fortunate to have more resources than many people, but they hope that their experiences starting businesses can set an example for everyone. Enitan in Nigeria works for a multinational company by day. When she's off, she is running her own organization helping young artisans turn their skills and income.

KUKU: I have a picture in my mind. His name is Dili (ph). He wakes up every day, goes to the farm with his parents. He's very skilled at making decorative arts and crafts. I've never seen anybody as good as this guy before. And I got the opportunity of going to the community one day, and I met him. I was like, oh, guy, this is so cool. A lot of people will pay huge money to sell this. And he said I've never sold it before in my life. And I'm like, really? This is so cool. Like, I'm going to make a business model around this.

And I spoke with a couple of my friends, and I said guys, we can actually give back to the society through this. Let's open up a platform where we actually move a product from the rural communities into the city. And we started with Dili's community, and now I am working with over six communities, which is really, really something I'm proud.

GREENE: That's the business that Enitan started, and she says Dili has gone from making less than $30 a month to making $600 a month.

Now, Mildred Apenyo in Uganda is tackling a different problem altogether. She has opened a fitness center that teaches women self-defense skills.

APENYO: The biggest issue for me was how can I give women the tools to help them be a little less vulnerable to molestation - to rape. I don't think that many women are looking at being black belts, but what they can have is a fighting chance - just a couple of skills to have another belt if something ever happens.

GREENE: Mildred told us that at first, she herself lacked the know-how to build a sustainable business.

APENYO: I know what questions to ask, and I'm not ashamed of asking. This other shame of not knowing things - I thought, like, if I asked questions, people would look at me and say, so why are you beginning a business when you know so little?

GREENE: And this is one of her goals when she returns home to Uganda. She wants to help other young women overcome the shame and the feeling of certainty if they want to start their own business.

Now, Enitan is returning home to Nigeria with hope that is tempered by the reality that her country has been going through a lot. Fears of an Ebola outbreak and the horrifying abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls by an extremist group.

KUKU: I love my country so much. And I know we have challenges. I know we have problems. But I see the opportunities in that country, and it is my responsibility to give back. If you see an opportunity, you have to go after it. What happens after that? If it doesn't work out, fine. If it works out, fine, but try. Make an attempt and try. If you try, whatever happens, it will be story for you to tell at the end of the day, whether good or bad.

GREENE: And those are the stories of Enitan Kuku from Nigeria and Mildred Apenyo from Uganda. Both young women are entrepreneurs. They have been in the United States on a fellowship program and came by our studios to talk.
